This is my friend Gravity. He is a professional blogger. His blog hikewithgravity.com is heavily research and professional. Check it out for the history and in depth treatment.

April 14: Well, we had our first bear invasion incident. Last night a bear came into camp and snorted and growled between Loren and Ian tents. He then went to the nearest food bag and scratched up the trunk of the tree that had the food bag. That’s why you tie the rope to an adjoining tree. The bears have figured out that they scratch through the para cord that’s tied to the tree. We are all hanging the bags a little farther away from the tents.

April 14: Pictured is the view from Waya bald overlook. We took a shuttle from Franklin back to the trail and hiked 13 miles from Winding Stair Gap to Licklog Gap. The weather was nice and we were rewarded at the top of Waya Bald with trail magic from Tippy Toes, a thru hike vet from last year. He provided pop tarts, mellow yellow and bean bag chairs. Joe and I have been camping with a group of 8 or 9 younger hikers.

Trek with Pat

It is said that the Appalachian Trail draws the young, the retired, and bunches of middle aged white guys in mid-life crisis. I will let my readers judge my status and motivations. Hopefully this blog will not only help my friends and family keep track of my whereabouts, but will also be an enjoyable glimpse into trail life. Maybe I'll throw in an occasional humorous rant about the criminal justice system. For now, join this recovering lawyer on his hike of discovery.
